Alan Dedman - landscapes and cityscapes
Alan Dedman excels at the landscape and enjoys making images in this genre. He likes to work on themes of industrial decay and urban melancholy. He has made a number of studies of the cityscape in Bristol, focusing on the old gasworks at Canons’ Marsh. Transco sponsored an exhibition of some of this work at the Architecture Centre in 1999.
Close to the earth
These examples of landscape studies by Alan Dedman include: Sunrise at Clevedon, Seurat on the Gasometer, Norfolk landscape and Sunbathers at West Bay. Dedman will work at various scales. The largest, most recent work ( a cityscape), being 2 x1.5 metres.Sketches and studies are usually smaller, A6 - A4 in size. Alan enjoys the freedom of working en plein air when he can. He uses whatever medium is to hand. The loose, vibrant nature of a watercolour contrasts with earthier works in oils.
